Your Broker Carrier Packet, Built and Kept Current

Reviewed

Direct answer

A broker carrier packet is the set of documents a broker asks for before it tenders a load: your USDOT number and active authority, certificates of insurance with auto liability at or above the $750,000 minimum for general freight (49 CFR 387.9), safety records and a W-9. FileFlo builds it from your USDOT number and the records you send, and keeps it current in one sealed link the broker opens without a login.

Have your packet built and kept current. The Broker-Ready Share Link is part of every trucking plan.

Start the Audit-Ready Setup

Audit-Ready Setup: $499. Then, unless you cancel, Core, $199 a month for up to 15 trucks, or Fleet, $399 a month for 16 to 50.

30 days, every dollar back: if you are not happy with the Setup within 30 days of purchase, FileFlo refunds the full Setup price.

What it means for your business

Your loads
No packet, no tender. A broker who cannot verify you this afternoon gives the load to someone it can.
Your insurance
A certificate past its date tells a broker the coverage may have lapsed, even when it has not.
Your rating
Many broker contracts ask for Satisfactory or unrated. A Conditional costs loads until it is upgraded (385.17).
Your drivers
A broker needs to see the carrier, not the driver files. Medical and testing records stay out of the packet.

What FileFlo does about it, today

  • The Broker-Ready Share Link: one click makes a sealed link a broker or insurer opens without a login.
  • The broker or insurer view withholds your gap notes, risk math and driver records, and shows a named count instead.
  • FileFlo reads your FMCSA record from your USDOT number every day: your inspections, violations and out-of-service orders, each kept with its source and date.
  • If your operating authority goes inactive or your insurance filing drops, FileFlo opens a work item and closes it when the record is restored.
  • The Radar on your USDOT: one email the day your public record changes, a new inspection with violations, an out-of-service order or a rating change.
  • In the FileFlo Compliance Department, FileFlo's compliance team does all of it for you: builds and keeps every driver file, chases every renewal, keeps the audit packet ready and answers the auditor's document requests.

FileFlo is your compliance department, so you never deal with the compliance headaches again. Buy it two ways.

What the packet holds

  • Company details: legal name, address, contacts and your USDOT number.
  • Operating authority: proof your authority is active on FMCSA's record.
  • Insurance: certificates for auto liability at or above the minimum (49 CFR 387.9) and cargo, with the broker named as certificate holder when it asks.
  • Safety: your rating and inspection record, read from FMCSA's public data.
  • Tax: a signed W-9.
  • The broker's own agreement, when it has one.

Keep it current, not just complete

Packets go stale on renewal day. One current link replaces a new email to every broker after every renewal. Read more in what goes in a carrier packet.

Questions

What goes in a broker carrier packet?

Your company details and USDOT number, proof of active operating authority, certificates of insurance with auto liability at or above the FMCSA minimum of $750,000 for general freight (49 CFR 387.9) and cargo coverage, safety and inspection records, and a W-9. Each broker sets its own list and often adds its own carrier agreement.

How does FileFlo build the packet?

From your USDOT number and the records you send. FileFlo reads your public FMCSA record every day and keeps your authority, insurance and safety records current, and one click makes a sealed link a broker or insurer opens without a login. The broker's view never shows your drivers' records or your internal notes.

A broker turned me down for my safety rating. What now?

Many broker contracts ask for a Satisfactory rating or none. If yours is Conditional, the fix is the upgrade request under 49 CFR 385.17, with the corrective actions and the documents that prove them.

Do I have to send a new packet after every renewal?

Not with a link. The link shows the packet as it stands the day the broker opens it, so a renewed certificate replaces the old one everywhere at once.
