The 2027 Trucking Filing Calendar: UCR, MCS-150 and IFTA

Reviewed

Direct answer

UCR registration for 2027 must be paid before January 1, 2027, at $55 to $1,163 by fleet size (49 CFR 367.50), and the IFTA return for July to September 2026 is due November 2, 2026 (IFTA R960). FMCSA has suspended enforcement of the MCS-150 biennial update for updates due on or after June 1, 2026, but the schedule in 49 CFR 390.19T still stands.

Free. Your USDOT number, nothing else. Built from FMCSA's public record of your inspections, violations and out-of-service orders.

What it means for your business

Your authority
An MCS-150 that shows the wrong fleet, or a lapsed filing, is what a broker, an insurer and an auditor read first.
Your trucks
A carrier that has not registered for UCR may be subject to state enforcement action.
Your insurance
Underwriters price on the fleet and the miles on record. Keep the MCS-150 current with the trucks you run.
Your brokers
Brokers check that your record is current before they tender. A stale record slows the setup.

What FileFlo does about it, today

  • UCR, IFTA, HVUT 2290 and IRP deadlines are tracked for your USDOT number, and each one closes when the receipt is on file.
  • In the FileFlo Compliance Department, FileFlo prepares your UCR registration and your quarterly IFTA return from your records, and you authorize each filing.
  • FileFlo reads your FMCSA record from your USDOT number every day: your inspections, violations and out-of-service orders, each kept with its source and date.
  • If your operating authority goes inactive or your insurance filing drops, FileFlo opens an open item and closes it when the record is restored.
  • The Radar on your USDOT: one email the day your public record changes, a new inspection with violations, an out-of-service order or a rating change.

FileFlo is your compliance department, so you never deal with the compliance headaches again. Buy it two ways.

MCS-150: suspended, not gone

Status as of October 21, 2026

FMCSA has temporarily suspended enforcement of the biennial update and the deactivation of USDOT numbers for carriers whose update came due on or after June 1, 2026, while registration moves to its new system (FMCSA, updated September 10, 2026). The schedule in 49 CFR 390.19T(b) still stands: file when your update comes due, so the record a broker, insurer or auditor reads is current.

The full rules are in the MCS-150 update requirements.

IFTA: the quarterly return

A qualified vehicle that runs in two or more member jurisdictions files every quarter, even a quarter with no miles. The return needs miles and fuel by jurisdiction for each vehicle. Your ELD's IFTA report holds the miles; the fuel card statement holds the fuel. See IFTA for a small fleet.

Questions

What is the UCR fee for 2027?

$55 for 0 to 2 trucks, $167 for 3 to 5, $333 for 6 to 20 and $1,163 for 21 to 100, under 49 CFR 367.50 as amended by the final rule of September 1, 2026 (91 FR 56063). Registration for 2027 opened October 1, 2026 and must be paid before January 1, 2027.

Do I still have to file the MCS-150 biennial update?

The schedule in 49 CFR 390.19T(b) still stands, but FMCSA has temporarily suspended enforcement of the biennial update and the deactivation of USDOT numbers for carriers whose update came due on or after June 1, 2026 (FMCSA, updated September 10, 2026). File when it comes due so the record brokers and insurers read is current.

When is the IFTA return due?

The last day of the month after each quarter closes, moved to the next business day on a weekend or legal holiday (IFTA Articles of Agreement R960). The July to September 2026 return is due November 2, 2026, and the October to December return is due February 1, 2027.

Does FileFlo file my UCR and IFTA?

In the FileFlo Compliance Department, FileFlo prepares your UCR registration and your quarterly IFTA return from your records, and you authorize each filing; government fees are billed at cost. On the software plans, FileFlo tracks each deadline for your USDOT number and closes it when the receipt is on file.
