When to file for 2027
- Opened: October 1, 2026, in the UCR Plan's registration system.
- Deadline: registration completed and the fee paid before January 1, 2027. The registration year runs January 1 to December 31.
- After the deadline: a carrier that has not registered may be subject to state enforcement action.

Who must register
Motor carriers, for-hire and private, that operate commercial motor vehicles across state or national borders, plus brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies. A commercial motor vehicle, for UCR, is self-propelled or towed and 10,001 pounds or more, or carries placarded hazardous materials, or is designed for more than 10 passengers. Carriers that run only inside one state answer the UCR Plan's registration questions as intrastate.
Count your vehicles the way the Plan reads them: for renewals, the power units on your most current MCS-150. If that number is stale, fix the MCS-150 first; see the MCS-150 update rules.
Worked example: a 12-truck carrier renewing for 2027
Illustration, not a customer
The MCS-150 on file says 9 power units; the carrier now runs 12. Both numbers sit in bracket B3, so the 2027 fee is $333 either way, up from $276 for 2026.
The MCS-150 still needs the update: the carrier's record should show the trucks it runs, and a fleet that grows past 20 moves to bracket B4, $1,163.
Where FileFlo does the work
Most compliance tools track a date someone typed in and send a notice. FileFlo does the work behind the date: it reads each document, finds the date, checks it against the rule, files it where the rule wants it and works out what is due next, for every driver and every recurring item. UCR, HVUT 2290, IFTA and IRP deadlines are tracked, and each item closes when you confirm you filed or send the receipt. FileFlo does not file for you. An hourly list of everything missing or due within 45 days: your Today list. Nothing goes out to your drivers until you switch each routine on and choose who hears, how and when.

Questions
Do I need to file UCR for 2027?
Yes, if you operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate or international commerce, as a for-hire or private motor carrier, or you are a broker, freight forwarder or leasing company. Registration for 2027 opened October 1, 2026, and the fee must be paid before January 1, 2027. A carrier that operates only within one state answers the UCR Plan's "Do I need to register?" questions as intrastate.
What is the 2027 UCR fee for 10 trucks?
$333. Ten commercial motor vehicles fall in bracket B3, 6 to 20 vehicles, under 49 CFR 367.50. The 2026 fee for the same bracket was $276.
How much did UCR fees go up for 2027?
About 20 percent on average. The final rule published September 1, 2026 (91 FR 56063) set the 2027 fees, effective October 1, 2026: $55, $167, $333, $1,163, $5,548 and $54,165 by fleet bracket, and $55 for a broker or leasing company.
What counts as a vehicle for the UCR fee?
A commercial motor vehicle as the UCR Plan defines it: self-propelled or towed and at least 10,001 pounds, or carrying placarded hazardous materials, or designed to carry more than 10 passengers. The fee is based only on the number of commercial motor vehicles operated. For renewals the Plan reads the power units on your most current MCS-150.
What happens if I do not pay UCR by January 1?
The UCR Plan says a carrier must complete registration and pay the fee before January 1 of the registration year; after that, a carrier that has not registered may be subject to state enforcement action.
